How to Treat “Bad Clients?!”

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

bad-client1We may have ever experienced with some Bad Clients along our carrier as creatives or graphic designer. Put your comments here, how to treat them, have you ever taught them a lesson? Bad attitude vs Bad service? Pitching projects or Bitching projects? Or how did you get cheated by them?

Here I enclosed some types of Bad Clients in category hahaha.. :D

1. The most Evil : The Idea Stealer
From the very first time, they never have any plan to hire you on their projects, they just want to know what is inside your brain and will grab it once you speak it up and dump you.

2. Pitching or Bitching (True Evil)
This one also not good, mostly they already have a candidate but they need to find another as competitor, that’s why they release a Bitching project, invite some designers to create some creative items regarding to certain products then they gather all informations and ideas, dump the competitor and share all with their main candidate.

3. Stubborn whom Always Right
This one not that really bad, the only thing which disturbing you is His Stubborn and Never Go Wrong minded. Even you have already warned him that it (whatever it is) may fail in the end, he still go on with his conviction, and after all gone bad someday, they blame you such as you never warned him that this would flop. Kill me twice then.

4. Stingy Mingy
This type might one of the most that we encounter at this time of world global financial crisis, hehehe :D
It’s not their fault to be such a Stingy, it’s all becoz of the company who don’t want to spend too much budget for advertising in recent time of crisis. So they will ask you set the lower fee over and over again, till you thirst and dry up.

5. Never Gonna Paid
Meet such a type of this one, would be better for you to hire some henchmen to treat them good lesson. (Luckily never found any of them in my times as designer). This one is even not a Bad client, they are trully thieves.

Ok, might you have another experience so let’s share here, any comments in English, Indonesia or any other languages are welcome, let us discuss and sharing together. Live The Creative!

The Amusing “Why?”

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
..why?..

why ?

I just copied this as my comment on http://retinart.net and I thought that the discussion was really interesting and might could give an answer to any designers about how to ask why to your clients.

That one simple question “Why?” is really amusing : ) I think the most point is always setup in the front, once they (the clients) trust you as professional in this thing, believe to what we (the designer) suggest for, and for the rest they will try to hear of what our comment. But the good situation will end up after you did something wrong. So I think the matter is about “the trust itself”, good for you to keep maintaining that trust-worthy things. We ask”why” since we want to know what’s in their mind, that’s true, and this “why” is going to be wrong if your argument only about to settle win your opinion on your client. Gotta know this, just put your position as the clients, so it’s your money, it’s your project, become a designer also gotta has an empathy.
Sometime in my life as a designer, clients also asked me “why?” and I was really happy to know that my client cared about the design, that I created over the night and days, and I explained, tell them why this should be.
Back to the reason of “why?” if it’s reasonal or logic, even pink on yellow case, just do it, don’t take it too much to your inner sense of art since the sense of art itself are different for each human.
Instead of “ridiculous reason”, then you gotta do something, again that you’ve got to gather-up that trust matter, is there anyone right there beside you and the client, if yes, then better for you to convince that other ones “quickly” to be on your side, push it as “what yours is the right one”, and if the ones are typical of “yes man being” then skip them (the yes man being is the lowest class human ever publised by Gods), the last “finishing-move” is “push back the ball” to them, said that you’ve already warned them, that it is not right, if bad things happened later after this commercial published it would be not your fault. If it happened, that’s bad, there’s conflict in the meeting room between both of you, mark it and be sure you are the right one, so the next chat with your clients will be set in their private conference room.
